If I am fortunate enough to start with art at the If I am fortunate enough to start with art at the beginning of a project, every design decision is initiated by those pieces so that everything acts as a unified environment. Art is so personal to our clients, and we seek to honor that. The art doesn’t have to “match” the room it occupies, but I like for my eye to have a smooth path of travel when it looks around a space, so the art can’t be an outlier. Whether it’s the star of a room, or part of a supporting cast, a piece of art should contribute to the collective whole to create a cohesive, memorable environment. REPOST @rizzolibooks:
"The Ultimate Bath" devotes its elegantly illustrated chapters to dream bathrooms designed by today’s top architects and interior designers. There are grand baths with elegant mirrored and marble surfaces, bold rooms of rich maximalist pattern and color, strictly tailored spaces of great restraint and serenity, and baths with restorative views to the garden or forest. Gathered together, these spaces seduce, delight, and serve as a visual blueprint for readers looking to create rest, refuge, and beauty at home. Available for pre-order.

It’s subliminal, but you feel it when you see it. Designing and specifying custom furnishings is one way I create harmony—that serene effect. When you utilize a space with the correct forms, the interior design and architectural structure harmonize in tandem. Photo: @ericageorgedines #interiordesign #architecture #style #design #atmosphere

Collections of objects grouped together allow the eye to travel, as well as to linger longer. The first image is my own bedside table, which features some of my favorite things, while the second image is from a past showhouse and conveys its own visual dialogue with unique art and accessories. Repost @verandamag:
It's all about dining in style. ✨ Architect Bobby McAlpine (@mcalpinehouse) and designer Susan Ferrier (@susanferrier) teamed up to give this Naples retreat a sense of refinement through its streamlined architecture and couture details. In the dining room, fabrics and furnishings are almost exclusively monochrome neutrals and earth tones. “It’s emotionally clean and uncluttered—it’s elevated,” says Ferrier.

Such an installation is especially powerful in a symmetrical space, but can be just as dramatic in one that is asymmetrical as well. Luminosity. Reflection. Atmosphere. They’re the Luminosity. Reflection. Atmosphere. They’re the things that were always top of mind when I was designing the Naples, Florida, home that’s featured on the cover of the current issue of @verandamag. The interior had to be a vehicle to reflect light because we wanted to create an edited and uncomplicated environment of happiness, as well as add to the aura—and halo effect—of the home’s shimmering waterfront location. I see it all as a tonic of ebullience and joy. Architecture: @mcalpinehouse; Magazine photography: @simonuptonphotos
